Community Nights Besides TF2 and Minecraft

Postby SongOfStorms » Sun Aug 05, 2012 3:52 pm

While Minecraft events have virtually stopped due to busy lives, we've had TF2 nights about every weekend. And while I love TF2, I'd like variety in my games, so it's not the same thing over and over.

So I suggest an idea brought up at last Town Hall, which is to have a community night where we do a different game every weekend. So one weekend we can do TF2, then next we do a different one, and so on. Of course there would need to be interest in a game before we played it, but I think it would make things more fun.

A few games I've heard around here that have been wanted are Borderlands and Dungeons and Dragons, but another game that would be fun would be Sanctum. We could make a poll each week, possibly, to see what people want to play.

I would REALLY love a FunForFreedom Brawl Tournament. That's another game that a lot of people have (at least that's what I'd hope). Just a suggestion though.

Also, as for streaming it. Maybe MC could host it, and he would participate in each match, but he would knock himself out before everyone can move. So with that, everyone will still be able to watch the tournament.

Streaming is of course, not necessaire but it would be pretty nice (:

I would love for there to be Mario Kart Wii as one of the events. We've been trying to start a Mario Kart Wii night on the forums, but it's been failing, sadly >.<

MC doesn't have to host the events. I'd imagine he's too busy to host, let alone play, in this unless his time frees up. I was wondering if Shado, who hosts TF2 night, or maybe another mod, could host it.

The hardest thing about pulling community nights together is finding a game that is:

1) Easily accessible (a.k.a. cheap/free)

2) Can play host to a good chunk of the community at once

3) Won't immediately insult a majority of said community (a.k.a. nothing too gory/risque)

TF2 fits the bill well simply because of its freeness and large servers, and Minecraft fits due to the fact that a good chunk of our community is based in, well, Minecraft.

I've been wanting to play Borderlands with community members myself on stream, but this means that only 3 community members can join in. Same goes with Sanctum, Dead Island, and many other 4 player co-op games out there.

As for the Wii-based tournaments, I can't really comment on their chances of success, on the grounds that I don't honestly know that much about multiplayer Wii.

Many of the games like Borderlands and Sanctum are at cheap and reasonable prices. And while they're 4-player-only games, doing a set or certain part of a level and switching people out would make sense. Maybe a 20 minute slot for each round?

As for having a game people have/are willing to play, my poll idea comes into this. We see who has a game or is willing to buy it.

I'd like to direct you to the new global post. I for one agree with this topic, and have been thinking on creating an extra kind of community night, i started last week during my stream with Realm of The Mad God, but i want to extend it.

I agree with shado. If we want to do something like this, the games would have to be either free/inexpensive or at least popular. There might not be that many people participating in a multiplayer game that's really expensive, especially if there's very few people who own the game.

If you remember, I actually did start a Brawl Tourney, but it down right failed. While we did get barely enough people about half of them dropped out. Its a lot harder to get it together than you'd think for a tournament.

I have had a few problems joining community events :( some of it was due to personal issues, most of which are fixed but I do have a timezone problem as well double :( the other is my derp laptop but with the recent RAM upgrade it may perform better I have yet to try stuff

I do own a WII and have both brawl and Mario Kart (I'm not that good at either but would try and join if I could)

If things start happening again let me know I will see what I do
