A Zelda fan fiction

Prologue:

What was he doing? He couldn’t remember. He felt… Broken, shattered even. He stared into the void that he seemed to be floating in. He tried to remember.
A mission? A purpose? Something floated back. He had completed a mission. What was it? The mission… had some complications. He had finished it though.
Wait… No… His mission… someone had ruined it. That boy… that boy was in the way. That boy had ruined it.
Why had the boy gotten in the way? What was the mission? He tried to remember, but nothing came. He laid there, floating in the void, unable to remember…
A girl? There was a girl. He remembered; the girl was part of the mission. She was important.
So… He had a mission. Mission required the girl, but the boy ruined it. Who were they? The boy was… was… Who? He was enraged that he couldn’t remember; this had to be important information! He calmed down. The girl, what was her name? ….a… ….a… It ended with an A, right? What did it start with? …H? No…Z? What?
Wait… What was his name? He was quite shocked; He didn’t even know his own name? He sank, of everything he forgot, why his name?
…Master? He remembered, the mission, the mission was for his master… He was supposed to free him. From what though?
Hylia… the goddess… no, the girl? The girl was Hylia? No, the girl was named Zelda. The goddess, Zelda? No! Hylia! Hylia was the goddess. She… she imprisoned his master.
He was supposed to free his master using Hylia, no, Zelda. He used Zelda to free his master… but that boy… he stopped him… No, he did his part, the boy… The boy killed his master… His master… No, his master was too powerful, there had to of been…
A sword... The sword the boy had, that was it. The boy had obtained a powerful sword, much stronger than...
Him... He was like the spirit in the boy's sword, wasn't he? He was a sword. How could she be stronger than him though? It made no sense...
Who was he? His master was gone; the boy has ruined their plans... There was no way to bring his master back this time... but the boy... he could still kill the boy, no fair play this time. Find the boy, and kill him before he can react. Destroy that sword spirit, and the spirit maiden as well. Every last one of them who had gotten in his way...
He remembered now, who he was. He was his master's sword, and loyal servant. The Demon Lord Ghirahim.

Chapter 1: Renewed

Ghirahim's memory was clear now. His master, Demise had been slain by the boy, Link. Ghirahim would kill that boy; spill his blood over the temple that had crushed his master.

But how would he escape this void? And how did he get there in the first place? Unable to do anything, he just thought, and planned, and schemed.
Ghirahim felt and heard a sort of loud ringing. It suddenly grew louder, with frequent spikes of a clashing sound. The magnified sound was impossible to avoid, and too much to bear. He would have covered his ears, but he couldn't move at all.

Finally, the sound began to fade. Ghirahim was filled with relief at the silence. He did not want that to happen again though, he needed to escape this torturous void.

He wasn't sure how though; he couldn't just travel through the void, even if he was able to. Ghirahim continued his cycle of waiting and thinking. This void would make a patient person out of him.

The void then shifted. Ghirahim watched as dark grey walls began to form. He recognized where he was now. The sword, his master’s sword.
Ghirahim knew how to escape his sword. He took a moment, and then transferred his energy outside of the sword. Ghirahim’s legs nearly fell out from under him as he stood for the first time in a long while. He leaned against the wall that he had appeared next to.

When he regained the strength to stand on his own, Ghirahim noticed that his sword laid in front of him, submerged in a trough of water. Ghirahim turned his head towards the sound of a blacksmith’s hammer. The blacksmith had his back turned to the water trough. Ghirahim picked the sword up by the hilt, and lifted it slowly and quietly. The sword was different now. It was smaller, thinner, and lighter. It would no longer suit his master’s strength anymore. He touched the blade; the warmth of it could be felt through his glove. The sword was still a sight; the bright gem still laid set in the hilt, the black metal reflected a dark image of the surrounding world.

“Hey there!” A voice caught Ghirahim off guard. “You shouldn’t be touching that.” The blacksmith wiped soot from his hands with a towel. “It’s not cooled down enough.”

“My apologies.” Ghirahim put the blade back into the water, as if he had forgotten that it was his.

“S’ alright. No harm done. Were you interested in that blade?”

“Hm? Oh, well yes actually.” Ghirahim replied, he was actually just wondering how it got here.

“That blade is probably the best sword I’ve ever forged. Kind of the hardest to forge as well.” The blacksmith explained.

“Really?” Ghirahim replied. He thought that the blacksmith was obviously lying. The sword had already been forged… but it was smaller now?

“Yeah, my brother decided he wanted to go adventuring you see. On one of his trips, he found the hilt of that sword. After a few years of searching, he found all the shattered pieces. I just finished putting them back together.”

“Oh. So, you’ll be giving this sword to your brother?” The story explained quite a few questions. He had been shattered, so the void was the lack of the completed sword; the loud noise must have been the smith’s hammer.

“Yeah, he worked hard to find the pieces. He’s earned it. Though knowing him, he’ll probably give it to the royal family.” The smith told.

“Oh, I see.” Ghirahim said. He could just take the sword and leave now but… What royal family? There wasn’t any royalty on the surface… There weren’t supposed to be any humans on the surface either though, and this blacksmith was here, along with his brother, and who knows who else. Where was he? Maybe he could find out more by sticking around.

“Yeah, sorry if you were planning to buy it. Maybe you could persuade my brother to sell it to you.”

“Maybe.” Ghirahim agreed, though he knew had no rupees on him. Why should he have to pay for it though? It was his, was him.
Either way, he needed information. His best bet would to let the blacksmith and his brother explain all he needed to know.
When the sword had cooled, the blacksmith invited Ghirahim to come with him to give it to his brother. Ghirahim thanked the smith for his offer and followed him to the stables.

It had been a while since Ghirahim had seen the large slender creatures in the stables. The horses were silent, either eating their hay, or held their heads over the door in hopes of an apple or a carrot. However, a red coated mare, with a long white mane, kicked and whinnied wildly when Ghirahim passed. Ghirahim shot a glance at the horse, and then continued on. The horse continued her rampage until Ghirahim was clear out of the way.

The blacksmith gathered two horses, one for him and the other from Ghirahim to borrow. When the horses were ready to go, the two got on, and headed to leave. As they furthered themselves from the barn, Ghirahim noticed movement near the blacksmith's home. It was a boy that looked oddly familiar.

Chapter 2: Knowledge

"Who would that be?" Ghirahim asked the smith.

"Hm? Oh, that there's the stable hand, he’d make a fine knight though. The boy's name is Link."

Link! He was right there! So close, and so unprepared. Ghirahim stopped his horse. He couldn't afford to waste this opportunity, now could he?

Ghirahim vanished from his horse, leaving a wall of diamonds in his wake. While the blacksmith was frozen in shock, Ghirahim grabbed his sword, and vanished once again. He reappeared in the barn, in front of Link. Link jumped back out of sudden fright, and tripped, falling onto his back. Ghirahim created a barrier of diamond fire, blocking of Link's escape. Link, still on the ground, glanced around trying to find another way out.

Ghirahim noticed something about this boy. For one, he was younger than he remembered. The boy's hair was a lighter shade as well. Was this the same person?

The horses were going crazy because of the fire, though it didn't spread. The fire itself was raging with the hatred that Ghirahim had for this boy... This
boy, that may not be the same. He had to be though, Ghirahim could just sense it. Ghirahim grabbed Link by the collar of his shirt and lifted him up.

"You're Link?" Ghirahim asked, putting his sword up to the boy's throat. Link nodded a bit, trying not to cut his neck.

"Do you know Fi?" A confused look came across Link's face, before it returned to fear.

"What about Zelda?"

"T-the princess?" Link's voice shook weakly. Ghirahim knew this couldn't be the same Link that had killed his master. A reincarnation maybe? So Zelda was a princess now?

"I swore to myself and to my master that I would end the lives of you and the other two I have mentioned." Ghirahim whispered to Link. Ghirahim prepared to slice Link's throat; Link closed his eye tightly and prepared for the inevitable.

The door of one of the stables flung off its hinges. The red mare ran up to Ghirahim and reared, threatening to strike him. Ghirahim quickly dropped Link and got out of the way. Link jumped to his feet and climbed onto the horse's back.

"Run Epona!" Link commanded. The mare obeyed, jumping over the dying fire, and galloping off towards the woods. Ghirahim regained his composure and watched the boy escape. He tightened his grip on the sword. He got away... Ghirahim had taken too long, but he wasn't sure. This Link was just a reincarnation of the one that had killed his master. Had to be.

Ghirahim noticed the blacksmith heading for the barn, either to get the sword or to check if the fire had harmed the horses, likely both. Ghirahim vanished once again and headed for the woods.

"What a fool!" Ghirahim shouted to himself. "I should have killed him; he was in my grasp." Ghirahim leaned against a tree, his arms supporting him. "Such a foolish mistake."

Ghirahim beat himself up about it for a while longer, not noticing that it was getting dark. He sighed; there was nothing he could do about it now. He'd have to get that boy another time. Or go find the other two. Where would Fi be? Zelda would be easier to find. Who to get first? If he got Zelda, Link would come to him. Would Link bring Fi as well? Or would Ghirahim have to search for her?

“Get away!” A voice shouted. Ghirahim turned to find where the voice came from. A girl ran towards him, though looking at what was behind her. She looked back forward, only having enough time to slow for a softer impact. She ran into Ghirahim.

Ghirahim’s involuntary reaction was to grab her so she wouldn’t fall. Ghirahim looked from the girl that was wrapped in his arms to see what she was running from.

Floating creatures hovered towards them; they each held a bright colored lantern. They made giggling noises as they neared. The girl gripped Ghirahim’s cloak in fear.

“Go on, shoo.” Ghirahim commanded the Poes. They floated still for a moment then tried to creep closer. Ghirahim snapped his fingers. A diamond shaped crystal appeared. It flew towards one of the Poes and struck it. The Poe flew backwards, and then retreated. The others waited a few seconds before slowly drifting away.

“Are you alright?” Ghirahim asked the girl, lifting his arms away from her. The girl, well, young lady-an older teen by the looks-straightened up and took a few steps back.

Her skin was… odd. A grey color, with large patches of black and light blue lines patterned on her arms. She had dark hair, at the roots, but it grew out into a bright orange, and had been loosely bound in the back. The girl also seemed… very underdressed. Though the patches of black seemed to be covering, well, her, the only articles of clothing she had was jewelry. Bracelets and anklets.

“Yes, I’m fine.” The girl replied to Ghirahim. “My name is Zanna.”

“Um… I don’t mean to sound rude, but, might I ask…. What are you?”

The girl let out a gentle laugh, “Have you never seen a Twili?”

“No, I have not, actually.”

“Where have you been the last few hundred years?”

“…Not here.” Ghirahim replied.

“Alright, keep your secrets.” Zanna turned to go, but saw a Poe’s lantern in the distance. She leapt back to Ghirahim’s side.

“Oh… um… you wouldn’t mind, say…” Ghirahim bent his elbow and let Zanna cling to his arm. Like a gentleman, he escorted her through the woods.
