The Legend of Zelda - Retro Episode Reviews

Postby khdarkwolf » Sat Jun 23, 2012 4:50 pm

The Legend of Zelda is a Nintendo video game series. In 1989 an animated series was made of the franchise; it was produced by DIC Entertainment, and distributed by Viacom Enterprises. There are a total of thriteen episodes in the series, and I am going to review each one.

But first off...

The Opening:

The opening starts off with the Princess Zelda showing Link the Triforce of Wisdom, she explains that Ganon, an evil wizard has the Triforce of Power and whoever get both will rule the land forever. This brings to question, its a 'Tri'force, wheres the third piece, the Triforce of Courage? The opening continues with some action scenes, Link letting Zelda fall into a river, and the Infamous line: "Excuuuuusssse me, Princess."

Episode 1 - The Ringer:

Okay, before anything, I love the music in the beginning, its a flute(and a background guitar) playing the Main Theme of the Legend of Zelda, and it is lovely.
So this episode starts off with Link groaning to get up. Link really likes his sleep doesn't he?
Link complains the Hyrule is boring, and that the only good reason to be there was... Zelda. (You may naww.) Link then decides its a good idea to whistle at and flirt with Zelda, when there in two different towers. A fairy named Spryte flies in with a robe for Zelda, telling her she warned her.
Link is then attacked by three blue dog-like humanoids, Moblins. He fights them, knocking one into his bed. Then bed launches his sword and a pillow into the air, and Link catches both. Link fights more, then charges up his sword(with a little NES ping noise) then blasts the Moblins away. The last Moblin drops a Magic Bow, which is made out of bones. Link stuff the bow into his pouch(its magic!!), then a knock comes to the door. Its Zelda, Link assumes he's getting a 'reward' for saving the Triforce, then promptly gets a smack to the face.
Zelda notices the mess, and Link, stretching the truth a bit says there were 15 moblins in there. Zelda tells Link to stay in the Tower and guard the Triforce, while she went down to judge the Magician's Contest(Spoiler: Vaati Wins! Just kidding.) Link wanted to go out and have some fun though, so he is upset that he has to stay inside.
Cut to Ganon, who is angry at the three Moblins who returned without the Triforce. He slays the Moblins with Lightning, the sits down to think. Ganon decides he'll enter the Magician's Contest. The...Triforce of Power(?) tells Ganon that the contest is for amateurs and that he is a professional. Gannon tells that know one would know. He then creates four Stalfos, dresses then in long covering robes, and have them carry an uncovered sedan chair.
Back in Hyrule, a magician is showing Zelda a spell, which makes a tomato grow, and subsequently burst. Ganon laughs as his enters through the gates. He tells Zelda that he is there for the contest, and Zelda tells him to wait his turn. While Zelda is judging the other magicians Ganon creates a keese and tells it to see if someone is guarding the triforce.
The Keese sees Link, who is talking with Spryte. Spryte seems to have a thing for Link.
One magician make a little lizard appear in Zelda's hand. Ganon then makes the lizard grow into a huge fire breathing dragon! Link jumps out of the tower window, does some crazy stunts and jumps off the dragons nose. He pulls out his shield from his magic pouch and blocks the fire of the dragon. Zelda throws a silver plate into the air, and Link fires his sword beams at it, the beams deflect and hit the dragon. The Dragon shrinks back down into a lizard.
Zelda asked Link why he isn't in the tower with the Triforce, but the two are interrupted by Spryte screaming. Ganon is in the tower! Spryte tries to stop Ganon but is easily flicked aside. Ganon then seizes the Triforce of Wisdom!
The...Triforce of Wisdom(?) tells Ganon that he will lose. Ganon jumps out the tower window and onto the sedan chair. They make there get away. Zelda quickly plants a seed and asked a magician to do that growing spell. As a trees starts growing Zelda ties it back, her and Link jump on and are flung into the air, landed on the road ahead of Ganon. Link zaps on of the Stalfos, stopping them.
Ganon calls for reinforcements. Link hands the Magic Bow to Zelda. Then Link straps his belt around them back to back. The fight off the Stalfos, but Ganon was getting away, Link smacks a bomb a Stalfos had throw out of the air and towards Ganon, the bomb explodes.
Before Link removes the belt, he asks Zelda for a kiss. Spryte comes along and interrupts them though, and undoes the belt herself.
Last cut to Ganon, who swears that Link and Zelda will pay. End of Episode One.

Awesome review, khdarkwolf! Poor Link, always unlucky in love!

I think there's one thing you could add on to your reviews to enhance them a bit. After you've talked about the synopsis of each episode, tell us whether or not you liked that particular episode and if you had a favorite scene and/or quote. Other than that, great job! :D

Can't wait to see you talk about episode 2! Take care, and I'll see you later! ;)
