Well everyone, the way Mojang is talking is starting to lead to the speculation that Minecraft 1.3 will be releasing sooner rather than later. I am opening this thread as to discuss a few things that the moderators and several members of the community have talked about concerning the server.

First of all, about when the server will be updated, this is all reliant on plugin updates. As this will be the first version containing the Official Mod API, meaning all the plugins we use must be rewritten to comply with this standard, unless of course Bukkit decides to update as well, but we do not know what is going on here. No matter what happens, the main thing we need to note is that the update will take TIME after the update releases, could be as little as a few days, or as long as several weeks. Until then, the server will remain on Minecraft 1.2.5, so make a backup of your JAR so you can continue to play on the server following the tutorial right here: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=405

Now the big topic of discussion, we are considering generating a new map and inventories. As we started this map, it quickly became messy with many "Derp-Houses" surrounding spawn, and then quickly afterwards the economy became overpopulated due to the Minecraft Events and the failed Ruination project. Our mission when resetting the map would be to create a more fun experience by ensuring that the game does not become too easy. Now, some notes, if we did decide to go ahead with this, large builds and some towns (KingdomBlocks, Funville, etc.) would be moved over to the new map, as we know it took a lot of time to create these builds. We would allow anyone to submit an application to save their build. That being said, any chests in the build would be deleted to prevent people moving things over unfairly.

I want to hear your opinions below, I hope you can see my point, as all we want is a balanced and clean server. Thanks!

I think making a new map is a great idea. This map has become overpopulated, cluttered, and not as exciting due to one thing: events giving too many items out. In the events, you guys have given out lots of things, especially diamonds, just wildly. It made diamonds on the current map an easy thing to find, and they weren't of any real value.

One idea for town/build moving is a Google Doc form. Maybe we could give information on what are actually parts of the build to get rid of things being cu in half.

If you don't do a Google doc, though, please include my house that's attached to Rivercrest, my town/mountain of Snowhead, and me and PLink's in-development jungle town.

I am all for a new map as well for a number of reasons. As you said, it would clear out (at least for a short time) a lot of the derp houses and abandoned/lost unfinished houses. Also for me personally, I just like to build in general so a fresh start opens up a lot of new options. I would also be perfectly fine with an inventory wipe for the new wipe as I have come to like starting fresh every now and then.

Im all for it, I am glad Kingdomblocks will be saved because me and my friends worked hard on it. Ad well as a few other places. Restarting the map is a good idea. But are you gonna save the Map so we can still go to it? Like making a downloadable version so we can still go to our homes we made or ever put it on our own server since some of us share places with our friends?

I think it is a GREAT idea! It is hard to even find a empty place for a new home these days because of all the derp buildings that nobody uses.

Also I've a suggestion: Remove the blacksmiths! I know not everyone is gonna be pleased with this but it really makes this game waaaay too easy! I mean: I only need 1 diamond tool of every kind and I'm done with crafting tools! I can just repair it over..and over..and over...and over.....you get the point.

The thing about this is, on a normal minecraft map, you can get alot of diamonds from mining, but when you're in a 3000 x 3000 map or 2000 x 2000 map, there is not as much diamond going around. so once all the diamond is found and used on tools and such, and they all break. no more diamonds on the server. same goes with iron as well (which there is more of, but still limited)

Seems like a good idea. But the thought of losing all my stuff isn't that great :P

While I'm all for a new map, I would really like a map download, so that all of our stuff isn't lost forever.

I am all for the new map but I will be a little disappointed after spending ,many hours of time digging out a rather large area for a new now. Although nothing is built there yet do you think it would be possible to have the same area pre cut out or have the area moved over?

After debating with myself, I think I'll be fine with a map-restart. As long as we get a map download, and my town moved into the new server.

I actually also like the idea of removing the blacksmith for balance reasons. It would be greatly missed but at the same time, once someone has what they want gear wise, they would never bother mining again. Once the risk of losing gear to durability is gone, things kind of become to easy. Even more so with high level enchants. There is a reason I never come out of my armor in game, lol.

As far as running out of resources is concerned.... Even on a "small" map size, I don't see it happening any time soon though I do have to admit that it would encourage a lot more strip mines which could get a bit annoying. i do think that the blacksmith has played it's own role in the server being flooded with diamonds and other stuff, though not nearly as bad as the mod influence lol. One other reason I kinda don't like blacksmiths is because it has led to a lot of "towns" being made just for the sake of one or two people getting their own smith and/or warp. This has lead in my opinion, a lot of "ghost towns" being built. I'm not against towns being built. I just kind of hate seeing a lot of space being taken up and no one actually using it.

On another note, I would also like to see a download of the current map if at all possible should that time come. For me, I would like to use it as a reference for rebuilding some building and pixel art that doesn't get copied over or for other uses.

I'm for the new map decision (with a complete item wipe of course). I'd like to see a completely new generated map with not so many abandoned builds. I'm also for the idea of removing the blacksmith. The enchantment level is decreased so it shouldn't be much of a pain remaking items.
I'd also like to suggest removing town warps if not too many people mind. Railroad track are almost completely useless. A nether hub for towns would be a good alternative. Beds are also basically useless because of this. If someone dies, they'll just warp to the closest town they died near.

I can't enter the nether without lagging horribly.

I'm up for a map change. That and a map download. But I'm against removing blacksmiths or warps.

Alright, I have heard your opinions and want to weight in on them.

So far, everyone seemed quite gun-hoe about the map reset, trusting the bigger builds do get to be moved over.
In addition, a map download would be provided if we decide to do this, so don't worry! Although be warned, many houses will burn without the protection plugins.

Now to weigh in on blacksmiths.
The Citizens plugin we use is quite the plugin, it adds a fair bit of character to the server, HOWEVER, this plugin takes up a CONSIDERABLE amount of CPU usage and is the plugin that causes the most lag. The citizens actually make it so we can't do PVP in the spawn town arena properly during Minecraft Events. I am all up for removing them, as the blacksmiths do make the need to mine completely useless. Remember that we can always regen land and such if it becomes too much of an issue, which I doubt it will.

Oh, and warps won't go, that is just silly.

I'm fine with a new map, but I have an idea for it:

Everyone can have one small chest they can bring to the new map, as long as the Mods say that there is nothing too map ruining in it.
